Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic who is also a popular public speaker. Feminist Frequency hosts videos, comments and an analysis of portrayals in popular cultures. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and American feminist media critique. Feminist Frequency - a not-for profit site for education that investigates gender representation in popular culture narratives - is created and directed by Sarkeesian. In her efforts to break down stereotypes of women that exist in pop culture, she also works to address issues relating to targeted harassment women and other classes of people on the internet. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in political and social thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she is highly sought after and has been a speaker at TEDxWomenXOXO and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. She has been interested in the gender issue and feminist movements from a very early time. When she graduated in 2009, in university she started her Feminist Frequency site. This ambitious woman planned to start an internet-based series on the role of gender in games however, she was also the subject of an online campaign to harass her. But the assault did be a deterrent, but it made her more determined to be a feminist media critic. Many awards have been presented to her for all the contributions that she contributed to. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winner for her media criticism and is the co-founder of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit that explores the representations of women in popular culture narratives.
